We introduced the highly successful Read Write Inc, in January 2022, as we are dedicated to ensuring that every child is able to read by the end of Key Stage 1. All our teaching and support staff have received the Ruth Miskin Training on Read Write Inc and as a school we are focused on raising standards in reading and writing for our children.
Our Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 children have daily Read, Write, Inc. sessions. Children with gaps in their phonic knowledge, word reading or fluency in Key Stage 2 will also be supported through high quality Read, Write, Inc. teaching and Fast Track Tutoring.
Every child comes home with a RWI book which matches the one they have studied in school over the week. Reading at home provides wonderful opportunities to develop fluency, expression and comprehension skills.
When children complete the programme, they move on to 'Reading Comprehension' lessons which still contain a daily RWI Speed Sounds Lesson. In these lessons, the children learn how to become a 'Free Reader', including being taught how to pick appropriate books from the school Library.
