At Acle Primary School we value the role of music within our curriculum and the enjoyment which can be gained from participating in a whole range of musical activities. We are very fortunate to have a music specialist, Elaine Brown, who works in our school with pupils of all abilities, particularly co-ordinating recorder tuition and peripatetic music teaching. Elaine also runs Musical Fire, our own school orchestra as well as SEYO which involves children from the Acle area.
We have a designated music mobile which is spacious, warm and very bright. Our well stocked percussion trolleys are always being used for class music, and musicians are encouraged to bring in their own instruments to add to their class performances. Music is always part of a class ‘Show and Tell’ assembly.
Recorder lessons for Year 3
All children in Year 3 have a weekly recorder lesson. They learn to play the recorder and also some music notation and rhythm skills.

Musical Fire, Our School Orchestra
Our school orchestra is open to all musicians in Years 4, 5 and 6. We meet every Wednesday and rehearse a wide variety of music – some we write ourselves! We play for special assemblies and celebration concerts at school, and also perform at concerts and village events during the year.
For serious musicians who reach Grade 2 and above, there is:
The ‘Acle St Edmund Youth Orchestra’ was started in 2006 to provide a link for young musicians between Primary and High School music. All musicians have to be playing at Grade 1 level and are recommended by their music teachers. The overall standard is Grade 4/5 and all the youngsters love performing their music at concerts and events.
SEYO rehearse every week and play a full schedule of concerts in and around the Acle area. Our music is very varied – some classical, rock, pop, disco and jazz -with solo performances for indoor concerts.
