The Latifs (Year 6)
Welcome to Year 6 class
Why are we The Latifs?
From a tiny seed, Amir Latif made it possible for blind people to travel the world. In 2004, Amar founded Traveleyes, the world’s first commercial tour operator to specialise in holidays for blind as well as sighted travellers. Traveleyes has opened the holiday travel industry to millions of blind and partially sighted people around the world, giving them the opportunity to walk with lions in Africa, sail the Ionian Sea and ski down Europe’s highest mountains. Amar continues to lead many of these group explorations himself; uncovering the countless wonders that world travel offers the senses. Amir also delivers inspirational talks to inspire people to "being limitless.”
Amar Latif is a blind traveller, entrepreneur and TV personality with an astonishing track record of facing up to major challenges. Due to an incurable eye condition, Amar lost 95% of his sight by the age of 18. Through sheer determination, he has managed to turn an unpromising tale of loss, into one of truly inspirational achievement.
What charity are we going to support?
This year, we have chosen to support the charity Sightsavers as it’s a charity that Amir Latif works closely with. Through his travels and talks he has helped raise money for this important charity. Sightsavers works with children who have lost their sight to provide experiences and specialised equipment so they can have lives that are limitless. Over the year, we will be planning and holding fundraising events such as bake sales or sponsored events.
Our PE days are: Wednesday and Friday
On our class PE days, please can your child come into school in their PE kit. Please ensure they still have a jumper/hoodie/sweatshirt as we still have to ventilate the classrooms due to Covid.
